Hehkuva häiriö – Glowing Disturbance
Jussi Kamunen 2025
Hehkuva häiriö is a monolith glowing in the darkness, where light, glass lenses, and sound come together. The crystallike crushed glass reflects light into its surroundings and toward the sky, inviting the viewer to reflect on the significance of different perspectives and the challenges they present.

Kommunikaation juuri – Root of Communication
Lentosulka
Sekatekniikka 2026 / Mixed techniques
Maan alla tapahtuu sanaton kommunikaatio: juuret ja rihmastot symbioosissa, muodostaen maanpäällisen elämän mahdollistavan taianomaisen verkoston.
Beneath the earth, a silent communication takes place: roots and mycelial networks exist in symbiosis, forming a magical web that makes life above ground possible.

Työn uuvuttama – Worn Out by Work
Beneath the earth, a silent communication takes place: roots and mycelial networks exist in symbiosis, forming a magical web that makes life above ground possible. In my grandmother’s youth, she worked alongside a horse on the farm. The horse was an important colleague that handled the heaviest tasks. This piece was inspired by my grandmother’s love for animals—and for horses as individuals in particular. The horse in Worn Out by Work is depicted sitting down in a posture that is rare for the species due to its anatomy. Overwhelming work and the resulting exhaustion are a daily reality for many. Sitting down after a long day marks the end of the work, signaling the beginning of rest and recovery. Thank you Jari Antila, Kari Manninen, Jorma Lehti and Valotapahtuma ry organization for assistance in creating this piece, and to my spouse Anthony Hilton.

Haarniska – Armor
Kikka has been creating works from found & recycled plastic since 2011. These structures and sculptures function as light art, utilizing both sunlight and electric light. Over the course of 30 years, she has collected plastics and developed various forms of art based on them. “I wanted to see how light flickers and emerges from tiny holes. This piece evolved intuitively as I glued blister packs together, suddenly it took the form of a garment. It derived its name from its metallic color and the nature of metallized plastic material. The armor embodies a narrative rooted in blister packs, such as for cholesterol medication. Attached to the garment are "roots" with some touching the ground, others swaying in the wind they may speak of heritage, generations, and humanity’s oneness with Earth, the planet, and the shimmering cosmos. However, viewers can interpret the work from their personal perspectives. In the dim light, the armor reveals subtle colors through metallic "bling" that winds along the string of lights catching the glow.”
Juojärvi – Lake Juojärvi
Katja Muttilainen
My roots run deep in Savo, on the shores of Lake Juojärvi. I was clearing out forgotten items in the outbuilding of the cottage I inherited. There I uncovered old net markers, bailers, corks and floats, net needles, fishing nets, and buoy markers crafted from old plastic bottles.

Juuret – valoa tunnelin päässä
Roots – Light at the End of the Tunnel
Janne Liukku
Kutsuu katsetta kulkemaan syvemmälle metsän hämärään, kohti valoa. Teos pohtii luonnon hiljaisuudessa piilevää toivoa, suuntaa ja mahdollisuutta.
Invites the gaze to travel deeper into the forest´s twilight, towards the light. The work reflects on the hope, direction, and possibility hidden within the silence of nature.
Käänne – The Shift
Marko Häkkinen
Elämme ajassa, jossa suunta hämärtyy ja totuus katoaa äänten alle. Mihin me silloin tukeudumme?
We live in a time where the direction is blurred and the truth disappears under the voices. What do we rely on then? Not to what screams the loudest, but to what lasts.
The roots hold, even if we cannot see them. And somewhere depending on them there is a light that won't turn off.
The shift doesn't happen around, but in us.
Juuriki myö – None other than us
Ella Kauppinen & Elina Nopanen
Mikä minä olen, mistä minä tulen? Omakuvan luomista, kuinka näen itseni ja miksi? Mistä minun juureni kertoo?
Who am I, and where do I come from? Creating a self-portrait: how do I see myself, and why? What do my roots tell of?
Lähde – Source
Mollu Heino 2019
The work consists of seven luminous pillars. The idea of the work was to build a light-glow space formed by columns that the viewer can walk through. The work depicts different sources: Spring water seeps from below the ground, or a light source warms and illuminates. The Source can also be something that radiates. We are drawn to light and especially in the dark we seek light. The materials of the work - the buckets - have already achieved an iconic and humorous meaning in our Finnish society. We get buckets from markets to draw something.
Havaintoja ihmisestä – Perceptions
Mollu Heino 2023
Perceptions. Color changing face profiles. 2023 Perceptions is a pair of face profiles that react to the viewer. As the viewer moves in front of the work, the faces react in their own way, with seven different emotions and changing colours. Profiles may turn red or green with envy, they can be melancholic or joyful. It's always a surprise how the profiles react, what kind of a response the viewer will receive.
Yöperhonen – Yön kulkija
Moth – Night Traveler
Veronica Lounge 2026
Metsällä on juuret, joita emme näe.
The forest has roots we cannot see. Through them, trees, mushrooms, plants & countless other small life forms are connected to each other in invisible ways. They sustain & nurture our world. When daylight fades, forest finds a new rhythm. Moth emerges from darkness – a small forest wanderer between shadow and light. The glow of its wings leads the gaze from surface of Earth towards the hidden, lively and uninterrupted forest life. Its fragile nocturnal wings are like a reflection of life passing beneath the forest – a silent reminder that we are part of the same network that reaches deep into the earth & far around us. It connects all living things together, enabling new growth & constant change.
On kiehtovaa kuvitella, mitä kaikkea maan alla tapahtuu ihmisen selkoaistien ulottumattomissa!
The artwork addresses the theme of roots in a literal sense. Fungal mycelium can spread over vast areas. Mycorrhiza, in turn, is a symbiotic association formed by a fungus and a plant root. The work reveals the root systems of organisms growing out of sight, along which the transfer of information takes place. These can be described as biological highways through which plants sense their environment, nourish themselves and others, and communicate with one another. It is fascinating to imagine all that occurs underground, beyond the reach of human senses!
Hortus -Plant Series N
2014, 2017 & 2018
Fern Orchestra / Vespa Laine
Uusimpaan puutarhaan on istutettu kasveja Porin taidemuseon sisäpihalta. Pienimmissä puutarhoissa on kasveja Paraisilta.
A bottle garden is a closed ecosystem that requires only light to function. Once the cap is sealed, the garden no longer needs watering, as it recycles water and nutrients through photosynthesis. The ecosystem also utilises old and withered plant parts, breaking them down back into soil. A bottle garden is a comforting memento, as it will continue to thrive even if humankind were to disappear from our planet.
At night, the plant carries out cellular respiration and releases carbon dioxide so that it can be reused. In a closed environment, water is also reused; it is released into the air as moisture condenses on the surface of the bottle when the sun shines. This cycle repeats itself continuously, creating a unique, light- driven biosphere inside the bottle.
Plants from the courtyard of the Pori Art Museum have been planted in the newest garden. The smallest gardens contain plants from Parainen. Nothing was originally planted in the oldest garden; instead, everything growing inside the bottle sprang from shop-bought potting compost. The gardens are at different stages of growth and remain outside on the artist's terrace all year round.
#KAIKKIPAITSIFOTOSYNTEESIONTURHAA

Superpuu – Super Tree
Jukka Asp / KVS Oy
Super-tree was born from idea of turning a light into something one can stop by. The tree is a familiar and safe symbol. It grows from the ground, rises up, spreading around. You can gather under it, stop in its shadows, meet people around it. The same idea is brought to an urban environment among people. It doesn’t ask for attention, but it draws the eye to itself with light, movement & form.
Why is it easy to remember a face?
Tämän aiheen kiehtovuus kumpuaa yksinkertaisesta kysymyksestä: "Miksi kasvoja on helppo muistaa?"

Mustikan muisti – The Memory of the Bilberry
Eija-Liisa Seitala
The bilberry grows quietly in the embrace of the Finnish forest. Its roots anchor it to the earth, the moss and the rock – carrying with them the memory of the forest and the story of the place. Within its small berry, a fragment of the forest’s history lives on.
Uusi syntyy mutaatiosta – New Emerges from Mutation
Jaakko Koskela
Luonnossa mikään ei pysy täysin muuttumattomana. Uusi syntyy, kun olemassa oleva muuttuu. Jotain tuttua muuttuu joksikin uudeksi. Kaikki tämä tapahtuu luonnossa – myös DNA:ssa. Kaikki uusi alkaa mutaatiosta.
In nature, nothing remains completely unchanged. The new emerges when the existing changes. Something familiar transforms into something new. All this happens in nature—including within DNA. Everything new begins with a mutation.
JUURESI – Your Roots
Henna Kaartinen & Miika Korkeakangas
Surua kadonneesta unirievusta. Innostusta ekan oman aapisen täyttämisestä liian suuressa luokkahuoneessa.
Me ihmiset ollaan ainutlaatuisia, koska kannamme juurissamme elämänpolkumme aikana kertyneitä tunteita.
Sorrow over a lost comfort blanket. The excitement of filling in a first ABC book in a classroom that felt far too large. Falling in love on a summer night as the sun rises too early. Frustration over spilled coffee in the morning, or the never-ending search for matching socks. Trust that everything in life has a purpose. Or perhaps longing for the stories that were never told. We humans are unique because in our roots we carry the emotions gathered throughout our journey in life. Your Roots reflects the importance of the present moment, while also reminding us that our lives are always linked to both the past and our thoughts about the future. The roots of the artwork are slightly cracked, asymmetrical, and even a little bumpy, just like the roots of every person. The artwork draws inspiration from the interactivity of art, in which the meaning of the artwork is formed through the interaction between the viewer and the artwork.

Traces of Unseen
Zoltan Varga (Unkari)
Embraced by trees and the shimmering particles, a multi-layered data matrix pulses, rooted directly into the forest. It embodies future intelligent systems— machine learning, quantum computing, and seamless connectivity—drawing strength and structure from nature. The piece offers a powerful vision of symbiosis between AI and the biosphere, where technology grows alongside nature to build a more sustainable future.
Hetkestä käsin – From the Moment
Heidi Piiroinen
Käsittää on ottaa kiinni, pitelemällä ymmärtää.
To grasp is to catch, to hold is to understand. The videos projected into the dark forest are memories and visual diary entries from along the journey of life. They are traces of moments, places, and experiences that root themselves in the body and mind. Light transforms water, asphalt, and the body into a single pulsating mycelium of life. Memories travel through it like roots: invisible, intertwined, from one time and place to another. As that which for a moment fits between my hands.
